Living Well with Chronic Conditions Classes

If you have high blood pressure, heart disease, COPD, arthritis or other chronic conditions, this class is for you. You’ll develop strategies for feeling your best and connect with others who will support your journey.

This six-week class meets once a week for one hour. Each class includes a new topic designed to help participants dealing with chronic conditions. The class is a combination of presentations, discussion, and activities with others who have similar experiences. Participants make weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their plan. Participants will learn:

  • Dealing with frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation
  • Exercises for improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
  • Use of medications
  • Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
  • Nutrition
  • How to evaluate new treatments

Who should attend? 

Anyone can attend! This training is for community members or professionals, including community volunteers, frontline staff, nonprofit workers, direct service staff, community health workers or other professionals.

It is particularly suited for people who have:

  • Pre-diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Depression
  • Hypertension
  • Cancer
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Or another health condition that you would like to better manage

Living Well with Chronic Pain Classes

Learn non-narcotic methods for managing chronic pain and get on with your life.

This six-week class meets once a week for two hours and thirty minutes. Each class includes a new topic on how to manage chronic pain. This class is a combination of presentations, discussion, and activities with others who have similar experiences to you. Participants will learn:

  • Techniques to deal with frustration, fatigue, isolation, and poor sleep
  • Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength
  • Appropriate use of medications
  • Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, nutrition, pacing activity and rest
  • How to evaluate new treatments

Who should attend? 

Anyone can attend! This training is for community members or professionals, including community volunteers, frontline staff, nonprofit workers, direct service staff, community health workers or other professionals.

It is particularly suited for people who:

  • Have a primary or secondary diagnosis of chronic pain
  • Experience chronic neck, shoulder, or back pain; fibromyalgia; whiplash injuries; repetitive strain injury; post-surgical pain that lasts beyond 6 months; neuropathic pain (often caused by trauma); or neuralgias (such as post-herpetic pain, and trigeminal neuralgia)
  • May also be helpful for those who experience persistent headache, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetic neuropathy, or those who experience severe muscular pain due to conditions such as multiple sclerosis.

Living Well with Diabetes Classes

If you live with diabetes and would like to improve your health and sense of well-being, this class is for you.

This six-week class meets once a week for two hours and thirty minutes. Each class includes a new topic on how to help participants with pre-diabetes manage their health. This class is a combination of presentations, discussion, and activities with others who have similar experiences to you. Participants will learn:

  • Techniques to deal with symptoms of diabetes, including fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, depression, anger, fear and frustration
  • Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength and endurance
  • Healthy eating
  • Use of medication
  • How to better work with healthcare providers

Who should attend?

Anyone can attend! This training is for community members or professionals, including community volunteers, frontline staff, nonprofit workers, direct service staff, community health workers or other professionals.

It is particularly suited for people who:

  • Are newly diagnosed with diabetes
  • Have poor blood sugar control
  • Have greater than 7 percent A1c
  • Have experienced recent complications that required hospital or emergency room treatment
